Our Blog Kickoff!
Who we are and what are we up to.
Blog? We don't need no steenkin' blog! Or: how this came to be
I realized that we have lots of news areas on this site, but no casual place for the team members to just unofficially talk about what we're doing. It takes days to get a final events recap page live, what with the photos and the vetting and the editing - there was just no coming home, taking fifteen minutes to just jot down our first impressions and then do the formal piece later.
At the same time, we have an amazing crew and it's about time you get to meet them instead of just seeing their work.
So, here are the team members you are most likely to meet out and about:
From left to right, me (Gisela McKay), Mark S (Photojournalist; on the right), Heather-Anne Wakeling (Editor in Chief), Frieda Audrey Luk (Editor, CanadianFoodies.ca), Suhujitha Parasuraman (Workplace Wellness Program Coordinator)
So first, me. I know; I was actually going to put myself last, but the reality is the bulk of posts are probably going to be mine. I am one of the two owners of pixcode (the company that runs NHC along with CanadianFoodies.ca, CanadaEventsCalendar.ca, Wellergize, and more). I'm the voice you'll hear on the radio most often - which is odd for me since I am really a behind-the-scenes kind of person. Mostly. I'm part geek, part cheerleader. All these years later.
Next we have Mark.S Mark is everywhere! Mark knows everyone! I'm not kidding; if you want to feel the world shrink, attend a conference or any other event with him. Every second person will be coming up to you. I guess that makes him perfect for the job of photographing and sometimes interviewing our special guests for NHC, the Canada Events Calendar, and CanadianFoodies. He's also the person who arranges for special guest interviewers, and don't ask me how he manages to get people like Pam Killeen to agree to tape podcasts for us; it's all part of the magic that is Mark.S.
Heather-Anne Wakeling. Heather-Anne is an amazing woman. I just have to say that. She is an educator, a fantastic holistic therapist, and probably the most resilient person I can think of. Around here, Heather-Anne is the person we rely on to make sure all the materials that come out of here are edited professionally - which is absolutely critical. She is also a survivor of a major health challenge and the brains behind the Now That I'm Healthy event(s), even though people keep trying to give me the credit for it.
Over at CanadianFoodies.ca we have Frieda - whose penchant for finding the top notch in flavours is key to making that site sing. With the overlap between healthy living, herbs, and raw and organic foods, expect her to be attending many of the same events as the core NHC crew. Frieda is originally from Vancouver and a life long foodie. She is partial to east asian cuisine but her love of food extends to all corners of the culinary world.
On the Wellergize front, we have Suhujitha, who is busy coordinating wellness programs and blogging away - she's also the person you are most likely to speak to when you call in to ask about wellness programs. She's mainly busy over there, but I intend to co-opt her to write for us over here as well, giving us her personal view of what is going on, both on the wellness front and in general.
