Over 5000 years ago, Chinese healers identified fourteen meridians in the human anatomy that carry energy throughout the body. Acupunture and Acupressure (accupunture/accupressure) both work with these meridians to work with the corresponding areas of the body.

The meridians are accessed through acupoints, which connect to the brain and then to the area in the body.

Acupressure stimulates the acupoints with the tips of the fingers, whereas acupoint employs needles. It is your body response to the stimulation that initiates healing, rather than the stimulus itself. It has been used to effect cures for ailments as diverse as Arthritis, tension, respiratory problems.

Acupuncturists insert needles anywhere from ¼ to one-inch deep, depending on his style and the patient's age and size. Those needles are sterilized, disposable and individually-packaged. Speak to your practitioner about his/her style and what to expect before the session begins.
