balms
any of various aromatic resinous substances used for healing and soothing

semisolid preparation (usually containing a medicine) applied externally as a remedy or for soothing an irritation

general preparation guidelines

  • start with 250ml of your decoction or infusion in a ceramic or enamelled cooking pot.

  • add 500ml of soft paraffin, petrolium jelly or beeswax. alternately, 500ml vegetable lard and 60ml of olive oil can be used.

  • simmer until all the water evaporates, stirring occasionally.

  • if you used lard or another perishable as your fat, you must add one drop of a benzoin tincture for every 30ml of lard used.

  • store in small air-tight containers.
