- Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa)
- Use: roots.
Also called: Bugbane Squawroot.
This plant is not related to Blue Cohosh, buthas similar medicinal properties.
Black Cohosh is a perennial shrub, growing a little over a metre high, in shady wooded areas.
It has traditionally been used for "female trouble" of different sorts, including menstrual pain, PMS and menopausal symptoms.
WARNING: Do not use while pregnant or lactating.
May cause headaches, abdominal pain, and/or dizziness.
Do not take for a period greater than 6 months, as it is suspected to accelerate breast cancer growth, especially undetected breast cancer.

- Arthritis
- Depression
- Headaches
- Sedative
- Hot flashes
- Tinnitus
- Vertigo
